Development Plan Scheme

The Planning your future leaflet is a non-statutory Development Plan Scheme (DPS) intended to demonstrate the stages in the Strategic Development Pan (SDP) process, which will see the publication of an SDP in 2011 setting out the long-term direction of development in Scotland’s largest city-region.

Under the new Planning etc (Scotland) Act 2006 schemes such as this will become statutory documents requiring Scottish Ministerial clearance in the future.

The Joint Committee has taken this step early in the future SDP process in order to publicise its intended programme and its wish that stakeholders be part of the Plan-making process.

Future DPS will contain what will be known as Participation Schemes, setting out the SDP Authority’s intended programme of publicity including its programme of stakeholder engagement and participation.

The current leaflet seeks stakeholder feedback on how they themselves view the process of engagement with the Joint Committee and the range and type of engagement they desire.

The Joint Committee has allocated a number of months to this early stage, seeking feedback by late August of 2008, which will form the basis of its participation strategy to be published in 2009 in its formal statutory DPS.

This step is important as what the Joint Committee puts before Scottish Ministers in 2011 will dictate the future strategy and direction of development and investment in Glasgow and the Clyde Valley for many years to come.

It is important that stakeholders who are interested in helping to shape that future realise the significance of this work and they should consider how they would wish to make that contribution to the thinking behind the SDP and inform the Joint Committee over the coming months on how best they feel that can be achieved.
